Most of the computer hardware's comes along with their respective device drivers in a disc.If your driver CD gets lost or corrupted, then you can always download the necessary drivers from the manufacturer's website or restore the drivers from the backup if you have created earlier.
But if you do not have a backup and is unsure about the manufacture of the device or your device model, then you will not be able to search the device driver online and windows will be showing errors like “Unkown device Found” or “Device not identified” in your system tray. Here is an excellent trick to find out the correct drivers for the unknown devices in your device manager.

How to Download Drivers for Unknown Devices

1) Find the Vendor and Device ID of the unknown device. To do this,
Open Device Manager
  • (In windows XP :Start>Control panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager)
  • (In Windows Vista:Start>Control Panel>Device Manager)
In Device manager, take the properties of unknown device
In Properties, click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  from the drop box.
You will see a code like this
HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_14F1&DEV_2C06&SUBSYS_104D1700&REV_1000
Here 14F1 is the Vendor ID
and 2C06 is the Device ID
2)After obtaining both device and vendor ID,go to pcidatabase.com and search with your vendor ID or device ID to find the driver of the unknown device.
After finding your device model and manufacturer, you can either go to the manufactures website and download the necessary drivers or you can get them from these websites.

Learn sharing Internet connection in Windows XP

Here is how to share your Internet connection in a way that other computers to be able to use it. The popular way of doing this is by using a hardware router or a combination of a proxy server and a hub. In the article I'll show how to easily share your connection with the Windows XP integrated Internet Connection Sharing.

The alternatives:
Hardware router
Pros: - once turned on the device provides Internet connection.
Cons: - set up, price.

Hub
Pros: - price, allows proper connectivity and data transfer between several computers.
Cons: - doesn't support network address translation(NAT).
+
Proxy server
Pros: - emulates hardware router functionality and gives IP address and port to the clients to provide Internet connectivity.
Cons:
- every client needs to use the Proxy server address
- network connection protocols are not being fully supported

What you'll need:
- one additional network(LAN) card, which will act as an outgoing Internet device
- (optionally) hub, if you are willing to share you Internet with more than one computer

Let's begin
Server setup
First off you'll have to know whether you've been using:
Dial up type of connection (PPPoE) providing a username and password or you are directly connected to your provider(ADSL...) without having to enter username and password every time prior using the Internet.

Open up Start->Settings->Network Connections to see your network cards(LAN).

Important!
If you are using ADSL find the incoming Internet connection card(i.e through which the Internet comes in) and right click -> Properties(fig. 1)
If you are using LAN + Dial up find your Dial up connection(and not the LAN card) and right click -> Properties(fig. 2)

Fig.1 ADSL

Fig 2. LAN + Dial up

On the next screen check the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection.

Then you'll be prompted to allow the ICS to change your second(inner) LAN card settings.
From now on it'll have IP 192.168.0.1 and will serve dynamic IP addresses via DCHP to the connected computers(clients).

Other computers setup(clients)
The only thing left to do is to go to Start->Settings->Network Connections, right click on the network card Properties -> Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) - then again on Properties.

...and check both as shown automatically

Don't forget!
Protect the shared connection
When all of your computers already have Internet it is important to turn on the integrated Windows firewall:
from Start->Run->Firewall.cpl
and then check both: On(recommended) and Don't allow exceptions

Now you are ready. Happy surfing!!!

clear all windows history files with a single click

This is a built-in feature of all windows keeps track the user's history, for example the websites you have visited, the documents you have opened and the keywords or files for which you've searched. However this tip is very useful for you, if you are sharing your computer with others or you do not want that the other persons know about your last visited documents history. You can clear these kinds of user's history with a single click on desktop icon named Cleanmru.reg. There is no need to clear each history file one by one. This trick will work in nearly all of the windows versions like windows 2000, XP and 2003.
Follow the given steps for configuration to clear recently opened documents automatically:
To edit the computer registry, first you should log onto your computer with administrative rights.
Here copy the following 6 lines and paste in notepad then save with the name Cleanmru.reg on your desktop.
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RecentDocs]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\
LastVisitedMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru]
When you double-click Cleanmru.reg icon to remove the windows history, a small dialog box will appear with the information "Are you sure you want to add the information in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\desktop\Clearmru.reg to the registry?"
At the end, you will get the message "Information in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\desktop\Clearmru.reg has been successfully entered into the registry." Click on Ok button and verify that your all history will have been clear.

How to recover MOST of scratched CD data discs

I learn an old technique to how to recover damaged or scratched disks
with some lost of data. In this case i have one borrowed game - MAX PAYNE 2
with a chunk of 4 MB lost with a scratch in CD1 Install. Here we cover some
special techniques of how to create a full working CD from the scratched one.

First some tools will be needed:

1. Alcohol 120%
2. Ultra ISO
3. Windows XP/2000 (not tested on 95/98/me)
3. Small piece of cotton
4. Dry cleaner paper
5. Finally, oil for cooking.

First step - preparing the CD

Get the cotton and drop some water, start cleaning vertically the surface of CD.
Do it 3 times and dry the water with a piece of dry cleaner paper. With a new piece
of cotton, drop some oil for cooking and start to wet the surface like you are
washing the CD with the oil. Dry carefully now. Some particles of oil will stay on the
micro surface of the scratch. It's okay. Seems the oil helps the laser of the CD/DVD driver
to read the surface again. Sure this will work with small unreadable scratchs - some hard
scratch's loose parts of the surface of the CD where we have data and it's lost forever.
But if it is loosed try anyway. With this tip 80% of the small scratched CD's could be
recovered.

Second Step - testing the CD

With Alcohol 120% make an ISO - image making wizard - and lets see if the app can
read the loosed surface. In my case Alcohol 120% had recovered 60% of the data.
This is not enough. Have tried other appz, they do not recover all the data. But the
CD/DVD driver laser CAN recover all data in this case. the data is still there, what we do?

Third step - making the new CD

With the main copy system of windows explorer you can do it. Just create one folder
with the same name of the CD label for future burn reference, and copy the CD content
to the folder. When the CD copy process find the scratch, in majority of the cases, it's
slow down the reading and will recover ALL loosed data.If not, it just tell you there's
an unreadable sector. In this case your CD is lost. But it's not my case, finally
windows explorer got all the data from the scratch and made a copy in the folder.
with the ultra ISO, wrote the original CD label, drop the content of the folder and
save as ISO. You can Test the new CD just mounting the iso in the Alcohol 120%. In my
case i did ISO of the two discs from MAX PAYNE 2 and tested installing from the mounted
ISO. Works like a charm. I got the 4 MB lost again. So, I have burned the CD and now i
have a working copy from the scratched one.

Sounds too bizarre, but works. Course you can jump the cleaning process and try to copy
the content with Windows explorer. But in my case did not work without oil...
